I am a 7th Dan Wado Ryu practitioner with a significant career in karate as both a competitor and as a Referee. I started my Karate journey, aged 10 years in 1973 and began my own club in 1987. More known for my role as an international Referee, both as Chief Referee for the England Karate and the British Karate Federation
I achieved my first international qualification in 1998 in Belgrade and later obtained a World qualification in 2003 in France. Up to the period of retirement in 2023, I had achieved at European and World level, Tatami Manager, Kumite referee A, Kata Judge A and member of the appeals juries. I attended and officiated at over 100 international championships, which included youth leagues, premier leagues, European and World championships and Olympic Qualifying events.
Notable Refereeing highlights: Was the 2016 European championships where I refereed the prestigious finals such as the Men’s team final, Ladies Kata final and the Men’s Team kata and various individual Finals. I also Represented Great Britain at the 2 European Games events.
I dedicated 32 years to refereeing at National level, influencing the growth and quality of karate officiating in the UK and help shape the careers of many referees
I have a lifelong commitment to Karate, with high level recognition and mentorship and transformative influence in education over the years
In Business, I am a Managing Director and Key Principle behind a group of UK based Jewellery Companies with multiple locations and trading entities, with responsibilities which include overseeing operations, strategic management which includes staff employment. This includes company governance, this may include finance, event coordination which overlaps with Karate, particularly in organizing events
