Styles of Karate

Karate is a diverse martial art with several traditional styles, each offering its own approach to movement, technique, and philosophy.

SHOTOKAN

Shotokan, founded by Gichin Funakoshi, is known for its deep stances, linear techniques, and emphasis on powerful strikes and strong fundamentals.

Wado Ryu

Wado-ryu, created by Hironori Otsuka, blends karate with jujutsu, focusing on evasion, fluid motion, and redirection rather than brute strength.

Shito-ryu

Shito-ryu, developed by Kenwa Mabuni, combines elements from various Okinawan traditions, offering a wide range of kata and a mix of hard and soft techniques.

Goju-ryu

Goju-ryu, established by Chojun Miyagi, emphasises a balance between hard (go) and soft (ju) movements, featuring circular techniques, breathing control, and close-range fighting. Together, these styles reflect the rich history and adaptability of karate as both a physical discipline and a way of life.
