President, Dale Gamble

Dale Gamble, 7th Dan Renshi in Wado Ryu, is a respected figure in British and international Karate. Since beginning his journey in 1973, he has built a legacy as an instructor, leader, and former top-level official. Dale held the highest WKF qualifications in kata and kumite and served as Chief Referee for both British and English Karate. As Chairman of BIKO, he continues to shape the future of karate with dedication and vision.

WKF Representative, Michael Dinsdale

Michael, Founder and Chief Instructor of BASKA, began karate in 1966 under Steve Arneil and later trained with Steve Morris, Masutatsu Oyama, Tatsu Suzuki, Shigiru Kimura, and Keinosuke Enoeda. He also studied Ueshiba Aikido (1980–88) under Paul Barker. A BKF-qualified referee, he served as EKGB General Secretary (1990–94), EKF Treasurer (1997), and WKF Executive Board member (1994), later appointed WKF Treasurer in 2007. He also sits on the BKF Board, represents WKF/BKF on the BOA, and chairs four WKF Disciplinary Tribunals. We welcome him to EKNGB as WKF representative.

Secretary, Mathew Handley

Matthew Handley, 5th Dan Black Belt, is Head of the Kempo Karate Association and the BKF Para Karate National Coach. A former England international, he competed across Europe and now leads one of the UK’s top karate clubs. As a passionate coach and inclusion ambassador, Matthew has developed National and World medallists while pioneering Para Karate in Britain. His lifelong service was honoured with a Royal Garden Party invitation in 2025.

Director, Katie Simpson 

Katie Simpson, 5th Dan, is a lifelong martial artist with extensive experience in both competition and instruction. As a senior instructor, she is dedicated to developing students through discipline, perseverance, and personal growth. Her leadership reflects a strong commitment to excellence in martial arts education, and she continues to inspire the next generation through high standards, passion, and a values-driven approach.

Director, Paul Simmons 

Paul Simmons, 7th Dan, is founder of Frontier Karate Association and a former England and GB international with 27 caps. A National and International champion, he is also a certified Exercise Physiologist and Strength & Conditioning Coach. With over 40 years in martial arts, Paul has coached multiple British, European, and World medallists. A respected leader, he received the 2023 UK Karate Achievement Award and continues to shape karate across all levels.

Senior Independent Director, Tracey McCillen

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Tracey McCillen as Senior Independent Director to the England Karate Governing Body Board.

Tracey brings more than 35 years of experience across national and international sport, with a recognised specialism in disability sport, inclusion, eligibility and classification, and governance practice.She is currently Chief Executive of Sport Excel UK, leading high-performance pathways for athletes with intellectual impairment, autism and Down syndrome. Tracey also serves as a Trustee of London Sport, where she Chairs the Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Committee and the Remuneration Committee, and holds the role of Senior Independent Director.
